Ejab Alliance Limited
Ejab Alliance Limited (EAL)
Ejab Alliance Limited (EAL), a sister concern of Ejab Group, is a Govt. registered research-based organization focused on animal breeding and reproduction, supported by a bull mother dairy herd in Thakurgaon, Bangladesh. Established in 2005, EAL's vision is to meet Bangladesh's growing demand for safe milk and beef by enhancing cattle productivity through modern animal biotechnology. Its mission is to generate, promote, and deliver demand-driven livestock technologies and services that sustainably increase productivity, profitability, and the well-being of farming communities.
EAL works on vertical genetic improvement of local cattle resources to maximize economic and biological efficiency, aiming to create profitable livestock farming systems. Its principal goal is to develop farmer-friendly high-yielding (HYV) dairy and beef cattle breeds within the shortest possible time by applying modern biotechnological methods adapted to tropical conditions. Since 2005, EAL has been working with domesticated ruminants, mainly dairy and beef cattle, and has plans to extend research to goats and buffaloes.
Through its specialized unit, EAL-BioTech, the organization applies advanced breeding and reproductive technologies, including AI, MOET, IVF, community-based young bull programs, sexed semen, genome analysis, nuclear transplantation, and dairy husbandry. The objective is to transform Bangladesh's traditional livestock sector to drive economic growth, self-employment, income generation, and malnutrition reduction, thereby contributing to a healthier, skilled nation.
Objectives of EAL-BioTech
- Develop suitable high-yielding dairy and beef breeds for profitable production systems, value chains, and market development, contributing to national food and nutrition security.
- Establish strong research–extension–farmer linkages and build Common Interest Groups (CIGs) for better access to technologies, information, and marketing.
- Promote sustainable livestock practices, skills transfer, and value addition to increase farmer income and improve livelihoods through safe livestock production.
- Motivate and organize farmers to adopt improved technologies via capacity building, input supply, and livestock production support.
- Strengthen animal healthcare and public health safeguards by promoting safe production practices.
- Provide training and human resource development (HRD) for improved service delivery.
Ejab-BioTech's Plans
Bangladesh faces a significant gap between the demand and supply of livestock products, driven by rising income, population growth, rapid urbanization, and social development. This presents vast opportunities to unlock the sector's potential.
In alignment with Vision 2041, EAL-BioTech plans to partner with the government as a development ally through modern genetic interventions for vertical productivity improvement of cattle resources.
Key breeding and genetic programs include:
- National Herd improvement: Sustainable genetic improvement of Bangladesh's cattle resources by applying advanced breeding and reproductive technologies such as AI, MOET and IVF. This program will also promote community-based young bull breeding program and utilize molecular biology tools –including karyotyping, DNA/gene sequencing, and genome analysis - to achieve transformative progress in the country's traditional livestock sector.
- Bengal Friesian (BF): Development of an environment-friendly high-yielding dairy cattle breed through a combination of alternative breeding techniques and modern reproductive biotechnologies.
- Beef Breed Development: Establishment of a commercially viable beef breed for intensive farming using two- or three-way rotational crossing schemes with superior exotic germplasm.
- Buffalo Improvement: Genetic upgrading of native water buffaloes with high-yielding Asiatic and/or Mediterranean buffalo genetics to create a locally adapted dairy buffalo breed for enhanced milk production.
